Proposed Sixth Form Subject Options 2024/25
**Please note – these subjects are projected to have low numbers; these will be delivered via the hybrid model where some learning will take place online. They may also be delivered via collaboration with another school in Bridgend.
** This is subject to approval from BCBC
Students are expected to choose 3 subjects from above (Seren / MAT students will have the opportunity to study 4)
In addition to the 3 / 4 subjects chosen, all students will study the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales.
The Twilight Law course is delivered by Bridgend College and will be wholly online during evening sessions in 2025-2026. Applications will need to be made via the Bridgend College website for this course in addition to the application made to Maesteg Sixth Form.
At Maesteg School we work hard to ensure that students are offered every opportunity to gain the skills and understanding to progress successfully to University, Apprenticeships or Employment.
Students applying for entry to the Sixth Form should have gained significant success in a number of GCSE subjects, with the expectation that students have achieved a minimum of 5 A*- C grades and ideally including both GCSE English and Maths.
AS and A2 level syllabuses assume that candidates have achieved a minimum C grade at GCSE in their chosen subject if studied in Year 11. For some subjects a minimum of a B grade is required please speak with Directors of Learning.
A student/parent interview will take place to establish the most suited learning path.
Students for entry into Year 12 should note that entry is not automatic on fulfilling the academic requirement above, but also conditional on past behaviour, attitude and attendance.
