Free School Meals

Have you claimed all the support you can get with school costs?

At Maesteg School, we want to ensure that every child receives the help they need.

The Welsh Government offers support with Free School Meals and School Essentials such as uniform, kit and stationery.

Make sure you’ve checked your child’s eligibility for Free School Meals. Even if they receive Universal Primary Free Schools Meals, more help could be available!

If eligible, you can get up to £200 per child for School Essentials, plus extra funding for our school.

Check your eligibility:

The Welsh Government Website says ‘Children and young people, whose parents or carers receive certain benefits, are entitled to Free School Meals. A child/young person may be eligible for free school meals provided certain eligibility criteria are met. If these criteria are met, the parent must apply for their child to receive Free School Meals.’

In all cases the actual application for Free School Meals and/or a Uniform grant is dealt with by Bridgend County Borough Council. Guidance and an application form can be found on the council’s website www.bridgend.gov.uk.

To obtain further advice and information on eligibility for these grants please contact the Housing Benefit Section, P.O.Box 107 Civic Offices, Angel Street Bridgend, CF31 1WB. Telephone 01656 643643 or email [email protected].

Parents/carers in receipt of Income Support, Income based Jobseekers Allowance, Child Tax Credit with NO Working Tax Credit (annual income not exceeding £16,190) Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, Employment and Support Allowance (income related ESA IR) and Guarantee Pension Credit may apply for Free School Meals.

If you have children attending secondary school in years 7 to 11 you can also apply for a Distinctive School Uniform Grant.
