It was wonderful to welcome over 300 pupils and parents to our second Year 6 Open Evening, this autumn term. The evening started with a welcome presentation by Headteacher, Mrs Helen Jones followed by four of our top BBC School News reporters, recounting their experiences of year 7. Lauren Andrews, Evie Fear, Saskia Nicholls and Lola Videan were a credit to Miss Hannah Jenkins, as they spoke clearly, concisely and passionately about their first year at Maesteg School.
Our year 6 students and parents then received a guided tour around all the Faculties at Maesteg School. It was a fun packed tour where pupils could join in many of the activities they will experience when they start year 7 next year. Students visited every area of the school with our teachers and Key Stage 5 Ambassadors, who were on hand to answer any questions about school life.
We would like to thank everybody who came along and especially the year 6 pupils who we look forward to meeting again soon. The feedback from parents and pupils was extremely positive, with some examples below:
“Brilliant presentations – I am 49… May I come back to school, please?!”
“Very impressed with facilities at Maesteg School. Great to see the resources the children will access.”
“Maesteg School pupils were a credit to the school tonight”

“Extremely interesting – has put my son at ease about starting next September!”
“You get to look at all the classes and meet the teachers. The little workshops were fun for the kids and looking at pupils’ work was also interesting.”

“My son is in year 5 and feels more confident about the size of the school, after learning what the rooms are like.”
