This year saw Maesteg School team up with Smart Education, to tutor our Year 11 pupils in Maths and English twice a week. Pupils would sign an attendance card and earn points for the chance to win an iPad as well as improving their skills in the relevant subjects. Year 11 pupil Courtney Owen had full attendance, staying 2 hours every week after school and in doing so, won herself an iPad!
Victoria Williams, Head of Smart Education, presented Courtney with the iPad, praising the effort of Maesteg’s pupils:
“All Maesteg pupils involved worked really hard and the tutors had good feedback about them all. Courtney particularly stood out with her positive attitude and was a pleasure to work with! Along with Sean Ash, Courtney has won a scholarship with Smart Education, which involves support throughout their A-levels. Courtney and Sean will be invited to our centre in Bridgend for support during their studies.”
Deputy Head teacher Dale Duddridge praised the work that Smart Education had undertook with pupils and said: “We are absolutely thrilled to see the impact this partnership has had on our students. It has not only raised their confidence level in the tutored subjects but also their confidence levels in general.”
Courtney was really pleased with the impact Smart Education had made on her Maths and English studies:
“I’d never felt good about sitting previous exams but since the tutoring I have felt much more confident. I feel good about how my summer exams went. The tutoring was more personal and I found that I could ask questions about anything that troubled me. The tutors were friendly and helpful, it helped me to relax when learning new subjects, which I’d usually find quite tense. I’d like to thank the smart education tutors for their time and patience, I really benefited from this experience.”
Congratulations to Courtney and many thanks to Victoria and the Smart Education team for their work at Maesteg School.
