Important updates for Sixth Form students.
At the start of a new academic year, we would like to take this opportunity to update you on the changes to the school day for all Sixth Form pupils and to provide you with some key information in order to make your son/daughter’s return to school as smooth as possible.
Attendance to School
Due to current restrictions pupils will be allowed to attend school for their first lesson of the day (For example if their first lesson starts at lesson 2 they should arrive in school by 9:50am, making sure they are on site in time for the lesson). In addition, students will also be able to leave school upon finishing their last lesson of the day. All pupils will be expected to sign in on the computers provided in main reception. They will need to sanitize upon entering the school building. They will also need to sign out at the end of their day or to leave the school site for lunch – this is their responsibility.
Attendance to lessons will be closely monitored and contact home will be made if there are any concerns. Please ensure the attendance office is notified if your son/daughter is absent from school due to illness or any other reason.
Tutor Periods
During each half term all pupils must attend tutorial sessions with their form tutor. These tutorial sessions will be in small groups and take place during tutor time (8:40-8:55am). Tutorial sessions will focus on progress and goal setting specific to your son/daughter. Sessions will be arranged by the form tutor and are compulsory. Form tutors are available each morning for those students in school for lesson 1.
School Uniform
The Sixth Form uniform is a compulsory part of our Sixth Form and consists of a grey blazer, grey tie (sixth form only), white shirt and black trousers/skirt. Outdoor coats are not to be worn inside the school building.
Year 12 pupils have been given ties on their first day. Payment for these ties can be made through the ParentPay system at school. The cost of the ties is £8. If there is a problem paying through this system, please let me know.
Study Rooms
Due to current restrictions study rooms have been split for Year 12 and Year 13.
Year 12 pupils will use the library for their study area and Year 13 will use the conference room. It is important that pupils respect the rules set out in these areas in order for all pupils to be able to study quietly and effectively. Pupils may bring in their personal laptops to use in school during study time. Pupils do so at their own risk and should ensure they are not left unattended. Our IT team will shortly provide pupils with instructions on how to access and connect their device to the school WIFI.
A blended learning approach is required across all A Level subjects, where independent study both in school and at home will supplement studies in the classroom. Online learning is now an integral part of learning and will be used throughout their time in Sixth Form.
Communication
I will be communicating with all pupils regularly regarding messages and opportunities. Pupils MUST access their school email DAILY. There are noticeboards in the study rooms where opportunities are also posted.
Opportunities, notices and reminders are also sent out via Twitter. Please follow @MaestegSix to keep up-to-date. Many of our subject teachers will have school twitter accounts where they may post revision or reading suggestions. Even if you do not have Twitter for personal use, it will be useful to set one up for school use. UCAS regularly tweet and there are lots of accounts supporting health and wellbeing which you may also find useful.
If you have any questions regarding the information above or would like support with anything related to the Sixth Form, please contact Mr C Brooks. The school website also has a dedicated page for the Sixth Form which will be updated regularly – you can find that here.
