This week Maesteg School will proudly present We Will Rock You* and we caught up with two of the main cast, Thomas Mines (Year 12) who plays Galileo and Sophie Thomas (Year 9) who plays Scaramoush to tell us all about it.
Thank you for taking time out of rehearsals to chat. What can we expect from WWRY…
TM: A fun, unique, crazy show with awesome songs from the legendary Queen!
ST: The audience will love recognising the songs but with a fun twist to them.
That sounds exciting guys. For people who don’t know the story of WWRY, can you tell us a bit about your characters:
ST: Musical instruments and composers are forbidden in the world of WWRY (Planet Mall) and rock music is all but unknown. Scaramouche and Galileo want to change that. My character is rough around the edges & fun to play. I’ve been enjoying the duets with Galileo (played by Tom.)
TM: My character is the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury, he’s flamboyant, full of energy and a good laugh to play. Galileo and Scaramouche are on a mission to restore freedom and find the lost guitar of Brian May!
I feel like we’re in for a treat, Planet Mall does not sound fun in any way! Before you go, is there anything else you’d like to tell us about the show?
TM: Puns, puns and more puns! You’ll laugh a lot and of course, don’t be afraid to sing along!
ST: There’s lots of dancing, it’s a very energetic show! If you enjoyed our versions of ‘Beauty & The Beast’ and ‘Grease’ then you will love our take on WWRY.
Sounds Fab guys, thank you for your time.
