Maesteg School pupils celebrated another year of success in today’s A level results marking even greater personal achievements with every single student contributing to an overall A*- E pass rate of 100% (2 A Levels or equivalent). This was the year of the ‘strengthened ‘A’ level qualifications’ so pupils this year faced even greater challenges. Despite this, 60% of students achieved 2 A*-C grades. The trend to pursue more traditional, academic qualifications continued again this year and I am proud that our students responded so well to the pressure.
We are pleased to see so many of our pupils gaining places at some of the country’s top Universities and securing valuable apprenticeships. These results reflect the dedication of our staff, parents and governors to raise the aspirations of our pupils so that they strive to achieve their very best and compete with the best also. They have made us all extremely proud.
This is a real testament to how students at Maesteg School are prepared to be lifelong learners with the skills required to succeed in Higher Education.
Notable achievements from this year are as follows:
Evan John achieved 3 As and one B and will go on to study Law at Exeter University
Sam Powys achieved A*, A, B and a C and will go on to study Photography at the University of South Wales
Sam Meek achieved 3 Bs and will go on to study Physics at Exeter University
Sally Cadogan achieved an A, B and a C and will study Accounting in Surrey University
Georgia Brownhill-Davies achieved 2 As a C and a D grade and will go on to study Photography at the University of West of England
Caitlin Davies achieved A* and 3 Bs and will study Law at Exeter University
Robert Williams achieved 2 As and 2 Cs and will study Mechanical Engineering at Swansea
Melissa Chiles achieved 2 As and 2 Cs and will study Art and Design at University of Wales Trinity
Our year 13 students now leave us to begin the next exciting chapter of their lives and we wish them every success for the future. They have been an asset to the school community and real ambassadors for what we stand for. Well done to all!
