Maesteg School pupils celebrated outstanding successes in today’s A level results, marking yet another year of excellent academic and personal achievements with an overall A*-E pass rate of 97%. 87% of our pupils achieved the highest A*-C grades, making this one of the best ever performance at A level.
Helen Jones, Head teacher said, “we are thrilled with the performance of our Sixth form pupils who achieved a total of 89 A*/A grades between them. We are pleased to see so many of our pupils gaining places at some of the country’s top Universities such as Exeter, Leeds, Cardiff and Birmingham amongst others. These results reflect the dedication of our staff, parents and governors to raise the aspirations of our pupils so that they strive to achieve their very best and compete with the best also. They have made us all extremely proud.”
“The Welsh Baccalaureate is a further strength of the school’s 6th form provision with 29 pupils achieving A*/A grades. This is a real testament to how students at Maesteg School are prepared to be lifelong learners with the skills required to succeed at Higher Education.”
Notable achievements from this year are as follows:
Kieran Davies achieved 2 A* and 2 A grades and will go on to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Leeds University
Jessica Brocklebank achieved 1 A*, 1A, 2Bs to study Biological Sciences at Cardiff.
Thomas Braund achieve 1A* 2As and 1B and will study Business Management at Exeter
Sophie Dimmery achieved 2As, 3Bs to study Media Communications at Cardiff
Pavan Patel achieved 2A*s, 1A and 1B to pursue Accountancy at Birmingham
Corey Downey will study Graphics at Manchester after achieving 1A*, 1A and 1B
Olivia John will read Geography at Swansea University after gaining 3A*s and 1C
