Just before the Easter holiday, Ysgol Maesteg put on two fabulous performances of Beauty and the Beast JR. Audiences were thrilled by the story of Belle, an adventurous young girl, and the Beast her captor. Pupils entertained us with classic songs from the Academy Award®-winning film score such as “Be Our Guest” and “Belle,” as well as original songs from the 1994 Tony®-nominated Broadway musical.
Mrs Shelley Parry who directed the show, was thrilled and delighted with the production of Beauty and the Beast JR. “This valuable and rewarding process has united students from across different year groups who have come together to produce something truly magical. Hours of rehearsals have been ploughed into this production and it is mainly through the determination, commitment and talent of our students that we were able to entertain and delight the audience. We were overwhelmed with the level of talent that was on show.”
Mrs Vicky Rees, Music director for Beauty and the Beast JR. was in awe with the pupils who took part. “To say I’m proud is an understatement! The dedication and commitment was on show throughout the entire process, we all became part of a Maesteg performing arts family. The pupils demonstrated bags of talent in their singing, acting and dancing. This show may have been the first in many years but it certainly won’t be the last!”
Headteacher Helen Jones was dazzled by the performance of each and every child involved. “We will never appreciate the toil, sweat and tears that have gone into preparing for this event. It is not just in the work that you see on stage, but the tireless efforts of pupils and staff behind the scenes who have looked after scenery, props, costumes, make up, advertising, marketing, sound and lighting. ”
The headteacher added, “There are undoubtedly far too many people to credit individually, but rest assured, that without every single contribution this production would not have become the whole school community event that it was. I am very, very proud of our staff and students. Well done to you all!”
