As was revealed recently on the @Maesteg_Drama Twitter, Maesteg School will be bringing you two nights of frightful fun with our latest production The Addams Family. We can’t wait to welcome you through the doors for what will surely be another fantastic celebration of our pupil’s talent and dedication. One such pupil will be Harly Videan who plays Lucas Beineke. Harly recently won a prestigious NODA Award from the National Operatic and Drama Association.
After performing in a show called The Snow Queen in Maesteg Town Hall with the Maesteg Operatic Society, Harly was spotted by talent scouts who nominated him for ‘UK Best Youth Supporting Role In A Pantomime.’
Harly played Kay, a young man who got kidnapped by the Snowqueen to be a slave at her palace. The show ran for 3 nights and was praised by the community and local press.
This summer, Harly was announced the winner at the National Operatic and Drama Association Awards. awards ceremony in Birmingham, beating competition from across the UK
We caught up with Harly in school after hearing the news of his prestigious prize…
MS: Congratulations Harly how does it feel to have won a NODA award?
H: I didn’t quite believe it, I wasn’t sure what NODA was and after doing some research, realised it was quite a big deal! I received a text from Curtain Up (Maesteg Youth Theatre) telling me of the news, I was shocked!
MS: What was it like to play Kay?
H: It was nerve-racking to be in the opening scene but after the first night it got better and the more I played Kay, the more comfortable I felt.
MS: Are you looking forward to our next school production?
H: I’m not really sure what Addams family entails all together, as it feels quite different from previous productions. I am very excited to play Lucas Beineke after reading up on him though. I know that he falls in love with Wednesday Addams too!
MS: Harly your talent spills over into other areas, you also play the Piano, Bass Guitar, and sang in our summer concert, for people who missed it, tell us what you performed?
H: Myself, Sam Orders and Alex Evans are in a band. We covered Nirvana, Green Day & The White Stripes. Something very different from what I usually do but it was awesome to show everyone what we had been working on! I can’t wait for the next one.
MS: It was awesome and we know you will take the same energy into your Addams Family rehearsals. Congratulations on your award Harly, keep up the great work!
Rehearsals are now well underway for The Addams Family and excitement is growing amongst pupils and staff. Look out on Twitter for updates from the cast and the latest news from Maesteg School.
