Maesteg School: GCSE Results 2024
A Proud School Community
This year’s cohort of Maesteg School pupils has achieved an impressive set of GCSE results in the year that results return to pre-pandemic levels. This group of learners has demonstrated real grit and determination to complete their GCSEs and this resilience will serve them well for whatever lies ahead. We are very proud of all they have achieved.
Reaction
We are pleased to announce that the school has bettered the results of last year and 2019 (pre-pandemic levels) with notable improvements made in English, Maths and Science. In a year where Wales has seen a reduction in the top grades awarded, our brightest pupils have improved on the number of A*/A grades achieved last year. This has been an excellent year for the school, and we are so proud that the dedication of our teachers, the hard work and motivation from our pupils and the support from our parents has been rewarded with set of results of which we can all be proud.
We are also proud of the pupils who pursued an alternative pathway at Bridgend College Junior Apprenticeship Programme. These pupils have excelled here, successfully completing their chosen vocational courses which will provide a firm foundation for their future.
Recognition
Headteacher Helen Jones said, ‘our pupils have made Maesteg school community proud. The atmosphere in school today was one of celebration – justifiably so. Despite the significant pressures they faced, these pupils worked hard from the outset and were determined to do well. They have set the bar for future GCSE students and embodied our school ethos of being ‘motivated to strive’. I sincerely look forward to welcoming this successful cohort back into our sixth form to enable them to continue to build on their successes.
As always there were some outstanding individual performances. Particular mention should go to:
