Winter Break
Update on the last day of term:
December 2022
Dear Parent / Carer
In discussion with the Chair of Governors, permission was given to close the school at 1pm on Friday 23rd December. The Local Authority (LA) has stated that schools are able to close at this time upon the completion of a carefully considered risk assessment. Both myself and the Chair of Governors believe this to be an appropriate course of action in order to ensure that all learners return home safely in what is predicted to be a very busy time in and around the town of Maesteg. I am sure you will appreciate the opportunity to spend this time with your family so close to Christmas.
Break and lunch provision will be provided, so that learners can avail themselves of a hot meal if they so wish.
The Local Authority will not permit LA provided buses to pick up leavers any earlier than 2:50pm (the normal school closure time). This applies to the buses where the learners are entitled to ‘free’ transport through ‘free’ bus passes.
In summary:
- School will close at 1pm on Friday 23rd December
- Pupils who walk home or who are being picked up by parents/ carers can leave at 1pm
- Pupils due to travel on the LA provided ‘free’ buses who are not able to find alternative transport at 1pm can stay in school until 2:50pm when the LA buses will arrive and take them home. This group of children will be supervised at all times by senior staff.
- If any pupil wishes to remain on site until 2:50pm it is essential that parents/carers contact the school via the [email protected] email address to ensure that a place is secured for supervision until the ‘free’ buses leave at 2:50pm.
Please remember that all pupils return to school for the Spring term on Monday 9th January 2023.
Once again, thank you for your support over the last term and I wish you all a happy and restful break.
