New Disposition Curriculum: Years 7 & 8
Last week we launched our new disposition curriculum with Years 7 and 8. Year 7 have been learning about curiosity and have been immersing themselves in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland whilst Year 8 have been studying innovation and looking at Rachel Delahaye’s Electric Life.

On Tuesday Rachel Delahaye came to Maesteg School to meet all of Year 8 and talked about her journey to becoming a writer and an avid reader. She spoke to the year group as a whole before working with smaller groups throughout the day discussing dystopian fiction and talking about famous writers such as Orwell and how they have often predicted the future. Students also spent time working through quests much like Electric Life’s main character Alara, as well as using VR to look into future worlds, imagining what things might be like when they grow up.
On Wednesday, Year 8 students delved deeper into the disposition of innovation, defining what we mean when we talk about innovation and thinking about how it can be used to solve some of the issues facing the local area. They then spent time considering how innovation can sometimes go too far. It has been really inspiring to see students so engaged in their learning and we’re excited to see how they now harness what they have learnt to become innovative in the classroom and beyond.
