Year 9 pupils Niamh O’Brien and Leona Terzic recently joined up with the Bridgend County Orchestra to play at Cardiff’s Urdd Gobaith Cymru Centre. Niamh and Leona played as part of the violin section, thrilling the Cardiff audience with music from hit musicals Hairspray and High School Musical.
Leona relished the opportunity to play alongside other young musicians from across the county, thoroughly enjoying her time in Cardiff. “It was great to make new friends that share my passion for music,” said Leona. “I can’t wait for the next concert and to learn some new pieces.”
“The rehearsals were intense but Simon our conductor made them enjoyable, telling us stories about each piece,” added Niamh. “We got up to dance during the performance of High School Musical, as a Mexican wave spread across The Orchestra.”
“It made us both feel proud to play in front of our families and represent Maesteg School,” said Niamh. “We just can’t wait to do it again this Summer!”
